I think this was a perfect example.
I made a comment on the article about Volvo having a Turbo/Supercharger engine coming out - !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
That comment basically said, wow I didn't even know you could put both of those on the same engine. I've honestly never heard of it. I think from talking on here you guys know I have a pretty good working knowledge of mechanics and engines, I've just never heard of this before. That's not to say I'm a full blown mechanic, but I like to do some maintenance in the driveway and work on the Montego myself. Here's a screen grab of the comment I got back from some jerk today. I screen grabbed it so I had a copy and then dismissed it. Wasn't worth the response. Thought I would share with you guys. Also a second screen grab that shows a good response I got from one guy.

Also, just for more "informative" reasons, this has been done in the aftermarket in multiple ways and is called "compound boost". This kit was available from Hellion turbos for the 03/04 cobra, that fed twin turbos into the stock eaton supercharger.

Yeah, be informative, but the whole you are an adult or a child that knows nothing about internal combustion engines and why are you here? is waaaaay out of line.
Even if I knew nothing about IC engines, this is a great place to be to learn.
besides the fact that it really only implies I don't know much about Forced Induction Internal Combustion Engines!
Haha, I prefer N/A motors anyhow.

The internet is often times a digital Colosseum of sorts for those who feel they have something to prove.
"Herk-a-durk-a-durk, You are so dumb if you haven't heard of twin-charging before. I will lecture you in the most condescending way possible, and in the eye of the public, so that the world will know of my vast superiority to you. Then I will be smothered by a waterfall of hot bitches, as is my divine right for being the smartest man on this forum." God bless the internet; without it I'd have to go visit my mother to receive passive-aggression.
Plans for going to Cobo when it opens to the public?

Unfortunately I don't think I'll make it to the show again this year. In the future it's going to start being a really cool trip for my son and I. He turns 1 on Friday, party on Saturday. So it'll be a little crazy for us. And I don't have any interest in going to the auto show with a 1 year old. That would be as insane as the original and now dismissed guy who commented at me! It'll be a cool yearly birthday thing for us to do in the future tho.
Obviously I can't be shamed for not knowing about twin charging giving I made a whole post on OPPO about how I had a bad response from a guy when I made a comment about not knowing about it.
Maybe I just have no shame anymore lol. It's just the internet...

You should look into the compound turbo systems if you want complicated. A roots blower on top of a engine with turbo(s) feeding it is simple compared to the compound turbo systems that use massively different sized turbos and still fit it in an engine bay. You see it more often on diesels, but it works equally well on gas if you need a huge turbo without lag. Here's a random chart about how Opel was doing it:

Yeah, the auto show is out of my schedule this year too. In the past I took my wife, but I soon learned that not everyone wants to spend 7 hours there. So now I roll solo or with a car geek buddy. I haven't been in awhile, but I worry that the basement portion won't be able to recreate the glory that was the aftermarket section in the early 2000's. That was the first time I ever saw 28" rims covered in ostrich leather, and the only time I ever saw $15,000 rhinestone encrusted spinners. Those were troubling times in the kingdom...

Hahaha, yeah I don't necessarily spend 7 hours. As you probably know I'm a domestic car oriented guy. I might stroll through some of the foreign exhibits but I'm quick through those. I just don't want to feel quilty making my wife wait with the baby for 30-40 minutes so I can wait to sit in a C7 for 30-45 seconds lol.
Through work I could probably get a media pass if I wanted. I know a couple people here who got approved for Media Access. Maybe next time.
And good god those ridiculous wheels. The last couple years downstairs has been all about the driving in "green" cars experience because there is little to no emissions they can drive indoors.

The jag c-x75 prototype is another car with both types of compressors. It has a twin charged, 10000 rpm four banger plus two 200 hp electric motors. It makes 1000 hp. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it but don't worry, it's no reason for me to be an a-hole. Coincidentally I brought that car up just yesterday in a which would you rather type question.

Cool pics!!!
I just felt that leaving that up or responding would end poorly. I could have made a comment in OPPO and had people flock to attack him, but that's not helping anything either. The other guy told me info and got a star from me on it. The annoying guy wrote a whole insulting paragraph before even talking about anything.
Even more he was wrong, my statement only proved I don't know much about Forced Induction Applications as they apply to the Internal Combustion Engine. Hahahaha. It's good to have a Mod's approval of the Dismiss usage though. I want to use the button correctly and felt it was the right move.

I remember that question, I didn't vote for the Jag haha. Maybe I would have if I had known so much about the crazy ass motor set up it has, but being a Jag I would assume electric and motor probably shouldn't go together LOL.
I've never been big on forced induction. I'm more of an all motor kind of guy. I'm probably part of the wrong generation as I'm 27 and like naturally aspirated V8s as my favorite options.

That's why I've been sticking to Oppo lately. You guys tend to only call people out on their idiocy when it's either incredibly racist, or incredibly dangerous/stupid.
Also; I'd never heard of this as well. I knew it was possible, but I always figured it was kind of like taking a sledgehammer to an spider. Useful only if you want the spider really fucking dead.

It does kind of look like the post was removed.
Or possibly (this is all guessing) when an approved commenter dismisses a reply from an unapproved commenter, perhaps no one other than the commenter and an author within that domain can see it (and possibly the person who dismissed it). There may be a logic to it. I'm actually not sure.

I had wondered what the lower level was like in the past few years. It always follows industry trends (customs in the 00's, for example) so it makes sense that now a lot of the space is geared towards "green" exhibits. In the 90's it was (then) advanced safety features and conversion van outfitters, and in the 80's it was mostly dealership service garage equipment manufacturers and custom sunroof/convertible outfitters.
The downfall for those who went with me when I was in college was that I was an "every car" guy. But especially an exotic car guy. Ferrari was putting out amazing things like the Enzo, Lambo was putting it's Audi ties to good use and debuting the Gallardo and Murcielago, Porsche proved it could make something far nuttier than any 911 in the Carrera GT, and this little outfit from San Cesario had just put out a curiosity called a "Zonda". It was a pretty great time for exotics. It was also the early, heady days of digital photography, and I had spent some book money on a mid-range digital camera from Sony. I had convinced myself that I was the Ansel Adams of amateur car photography. So those trips ended up being entirely too long for everyone but me.
I wish I knew where those files went to. I'd love to show people the photos I took of the "New 2015 Bronco" 10 years ago.

Yeah I only recently started reading about classic muscle, after driving a neighbors 396 chevelle ss. Sometimes you need something to spark your interest before you "get it". I've already got my love for na v8s, after all I've got a cammed 3v 4.6 in my stang which I wouldn't trade for anything.

Hahahahahahaha definitely...to all of that!
I never went to a Detroit show until the January 05 one. I grew up in North NJ so I always went to the NYC Show. Which is the opposite of the Detroit show. I don't get it either. GM/Ford/Chrysler complain that the east coast buys all foreign cars, but they have a smaller presence at the NYC show than they do at the Detroit one. Everyone here is already buying Big3, why wouldn't you put that emphasis on the market you need growth in?!?!
Anyhow, I had some fun with a non-car guy friend at the Detroit show 3 years ago, walked up to the Audi R8 V10 and asked him how much he thought it cost. His guess was $40,000. I love asking non car people what they think a car is worth, you can get a real perspective on what people think looks like a million bucks.
Also, I've stopped taking pictures at events. Auto Show, Classic Car Shows, etc (unless its my 68 Montego that is!) I find myself only concerned about pics and I'm living behind the lens.

I'm sure a 396 Chevelle would do that to you.
I have a 68 Mercury Montego MX Cyclone Package with a 302 V8 (5.0) that I added an edelbrock intake, holley 4 barrel, and an epic dual Super 44 Flowmaster exhaust to. This thing is a blast to drive and it's only a 302. It'll plant you in the seat and light up the tires. So unless I was seriously drag racing I can't imagine the need for boost. Enjoy reference below. Fun upgraded sounds start at about 45 seconds into the video.

Oppo has their lurkers too. I probably should have used it on this guy . Implying that the reason the Weathertech mats in my moms car leaked water after 2 trips is because I'm sloppy and don't know how to knock the snow off my shoes or how to sit properly. Rather than the fact that there are, in my opinion, unnecessary holes in the floor mats. Sometimes it's fun to counter their tomfoolery.

A little birdette told me that gawker is auditing all sites to see which stay and which go for the balance of 2014, including checking up on author subject knowledge and handling of ( planted & real ) 'contrary' comments...
The next time we find ourselves saying " I never even heard of xyz " it may help job security to ask google first, instead, with the goal being to lead by example :)
As for this topic, it's called compounding and in addition to manufs. such as Volvo, there are some car-owner groups that either start with turbo cars and add superchargers or start with superchargers and add turbos. Because speed, of course.
